Where did the name Buro come from?

Buro is a short and catchy combination of the words “Buy” and “Borrow”. It sounds much cooler than saying “Buyrow” or “Borbuy” or any other combination of the words. Also, if you’re wondering, it’s pronounced “Boo-row.”

How much does Buro cost?

The app itself is completely free! However, to keep it that way, we do take a small percentage of the transaction. From the Lender, we take a 10% cut from the transaction at checkout which covers service fees as well as the coverage that protects your item while it’s out there making you money. From Borrowers, we add a 10% service fee to the total rental price at checkout. So why do we need that 20%? Though we wish Buro could be free, there’s a price that comes with positive change. Creating, maintaining, and improving the app, paying livable wages to our employees, and making sure our users have the best and most comprehensive coverage possible does not come cheap. Aside from that, what you spend on borrowing is up to you!

How do I sign up/register?

Once the app is downloaded to your Apple or Android device, open it up and follow the on-screen instructions. You can use your Facebook account to sign up or create your own using an email address. From there, you’ll need to verify who you are using our 5-point verification system which you can read about here. Once you’re done that, you’re ready to Buro!

Strangers scare me. Is all this safe?

We try to make the Buro community as safe as possible, but ultimately, Buro is as safe as you want to make it. We have a 5-point verification system to make sure the people on the app are who they say they are, with ratings and reviews that show how they interact with other users. We store all in-app chats on our servers in case any issues arise. We never share any of your personal information. Basically, you’re in charge of everything! If you’re still scared, then you should talk to the person before borrowing or lending an item from them. They could have the same fears about you! Trust your gut when deciding to met people.

What kinds of things can I post on Buro?

Pretty much anything, so long as it’s not illegal, inappropriate, perishable, unsanitary, or offensive to others. So don’t go posting cars, real estate, anything that’s breathing (please don’t rent yourself or your loved ones), or weapons of any kind. As a general rule of thumb: if it’s a physical and sanitary item, and you’re not hurting or offending anyone in the community by posting it, then you’re okay to post it.

I don't think that I have anything someone would want to rent?

That is impossible! You never know what people might need. Have a browse throught the app and see what kind of stuff people are posting, and perhaps inspiration will strike.

How do you decide on item pricing?

That’s up to you! We here at Buro don’t choose the prices, only you do. Look through the app and see the price of similar items, or, if nothing is available, try doing 5-15% of the item’s purchased price per day, depending on factors such as age, condition, and even sentimental value. Then after some time, see the response and alter the price based on demand.

I’ve found a borrower that wants to rent my item. How do I go about giving it to them?

At this time, you and the borrower must arrange how the handover will be done. However, we are currently working on a service that will help out with the delivery and return of items. We plan to integrate it into Buro in the future.

If your posting was deleted, then that means it probably was an offensive, illegal, inappropriate, perishable, or unsanitary item. If you think we were mistaken, send us an email and we’ll sort it out!
